Wheechair Accessible Van TransportationAs part of our ongoing commitment to provide quality service to the people we serve, Community Life Support is pleased to offer wheelchair accessible van transportation. We have formed a strategic alliance with Trans-Med Ambulance of Wilkes Barre, to provide this needed service. Trans-Med was chosen based on their pledge of quality care and Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission licensing. In Title 52 of the PA Code, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission addresses van transportation as being either Exempt from PUC regulation or Not Exempt from PUC regulation. Van transports are Exempt and can be offered by any provider if: - The vehicle is equipped with specialized equipment (first aid/medical kit and oxygen).
- Patients are non ambulatory because of injury or illness and require transportation to/from a Health care facility. Health care facility is defined as a general or special hospital or skilled nursing care institution.
All other accessible van transports are Not Exempt from PUC regulation and should only be performed by a PUC licensed provider. Until now, there has not been a service with these credentials ready available in our area. Scheduling wheelchair van service can be simply done by calling the CLS dispatch number (586-0611) and schedule your transfer as you would with any other request. The rates for wheelchair van service are $35.00 base rate and $2.00 a patient loaded mile. These rates are the same if paid at time of service or invoiced. The initial schedule for the van will be Monday through Friday, from 8:00am until 5:00pm. This schedule can be adjusted or expanded as the demand dictates. The van service will begin operation on January 6th, 2003. Should you have any questions or for additional information, please feel free to contact Tim Rowland or Lenny Wesolowski at our office. We are excited about the opportunity to provide this additional service to our community and welcome your input.
